NEW RESEARCH Neuroimaging Correlates of Novel Psychiatric Disorders After Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury
نویسندگان
چکیده
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children and adolescents is a major public health problem. Psychiatric disorders are a common and important complication of pediatric TBI. Research has focused on understanding the risk factors for post-injury development of a general category of new-onset psychiatric disorders, called novel psychiatric disorders (NPD) , and specific psychiatric disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), personality change due to a general medical condition, and anxiety disorders 3, . The catch-all category, NPD, is important because new-onset disorders after pediatric TBI are typically heterogeneous, and repeated studies show they occur at a significantly higher rate than in children with orthopedic injury (OI) 2, . This study concentrates on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) correlates of the broad category of NPD in children who participated in a prospective longitudinal psychiatric interview study of pediatric TBI and OI.

Anxiety disorders in children and adolescents in the second six months after traumatic brain injury.
The objective of this prospective longitudinal study was to assess the nature, rate, predictive variables, and neuroimaging characteristics of novel (new-onset) anxiety disorders (compared with no novel anxiety disorders) 6-12 months after pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI). Psychiatric and psychosocial interviews were administered to children who sustained mild to severe TBI at baseline (s...

The objective was to assess the nature, rate, predictive factors, and neurocognitive correlates of novel psychiatric disorders (NPD) after mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI). Children age 5-14 years with MTBI (N=87) from consecutive admissions to five trauma centers were enrolled and studied with semistructured psychiatric interviews soon after injury (baseline), and 70 of these children were a...

The study's objective was to assess the nature, rate, predictive factors, and neuroimaging correlates of novel (new-onset) definite anxiety disorders and novel definite/subclinical anxiety disorders (in a broader group of children with at least subclinical anxiety disorders) after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Children with TBI from consecutive admissions to five trauma centers were enrolled an...
متن کاملApplication of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Neurocognitive Assessment After Head Injury: A Systematic Review
Background: Traumatic brain injury is believed to be a public health disorder with some complications. Post Traumatic Neurocognitive Disorders (PTND) received much attention among these complications because of the high prevalence of mild traumatic brain injuries. On the other hand, advanced neuroimaging is increasingly becoming an exciting modality in the field of traumatic brain injury. Magne...
متن کاملTraumatic Brain Injury in Children and Adolescents
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children and adolescents (hereafter referred to as children) is a major public health problem. The incidence of TBI in children younger than 15 years is 400 cases per 100,000 each year. Psychiatrists have a crucial role in the management of young persons who have a TBI. In children with a TBI or other injuries, such as orthopedic injury fractures, there is a high...
